lease the property in question for the term of 99 years at

Taels 1,200 per annum, I name 99 years because the Surveyor

of His Majesty's Office of Works stated in previous corres-

pondence with this Government that a lease for building pur-

pose would be for that term; and because this Government would

not incur the heavy expenditure on the extension, estimated

at $25,000, if the site were only held on a lease terminable

at short notice.

As it is desired to begin the new building

as soon as possible I shall be glad to learn by telegraph

your approval of the plans and of the terms of the proposed

lease.
